Venice,

  Italy

The actual arrival in Venice was the best arrival of all the places we visited.   Traveling by boat on the Grand Canal is definitely exciting.  Small boats darting in all directions, gondolas filled with tourists, and vaporetti boats transporting workers, tourists and those lucky enough to call Venice their home.   And yes,  I realize a vaporetto is just a bus on water, but the view from that particular bus is quite spectacular.

Early in the morning Venice is bustling with deliveries, but still feels somewhat empty.  During mid-day the streets are filled with many tourists visiting for the day. By  evening  the streets once again empty.  This is the Venice I love so much. It is especially peaceful in the evening.  Music fills St, Mark's Square and gondolas glide quietly by as you stroll along any canal.  This is truly La Dolce Vita!
